Curriculum Vision

Our curriculum is set out to be progressive in knowledge and skills. Geography and History follow a learning journey to gain knowledge to answer a big question. Then the other subjects have learning journeys to develop skills to create an end product. We use learning journeys to support children in understanding what they have learnt and why they are learning skills or knowledge. We also use Knowledge organisers to support children in understanding previous knowledge and what they need to know for their new topic, including new vocabulary. These are both referred to during each lesson.

At the heart of all foundation subjects are the REACH principles, which are; Resilience, Evaluation, Asking questions, challenging and helping each other. We believe at The Crescent that these principles help build pupils who are engaged in learning, prepared for the future, problem solvers, critical thinkers.

We believe that children should ‘keep up not catch up’ so our planning is reactive to how children progress in each lesson so that SEND children and any children who have not fully understood a skill or gained the knowledge needed can develop this in the next lesson. Our feedback and medium-term plans show that misconceptions have been addressed and assessment is used to inform planning. We have introduced 3Ls to each subject to help memory retention for SEND children.
