Music Curriculum Statement
The music curriculum at The Crescent Primary School provides a diverse range of opportunities for the children. The school are proud to have been recognised by Music Mark as providing outstanding music provision and we work hard to ensure every pupil has the opportunity to play a musical instrument, participate in concerts and productions and to develop musicianship skills.
To find out more about music at The Crescent and our plans for the future, please see our Music Development Plan which is linked further down this page.
Singing and being part of the community
We have a singing assembly each week for each key stage and we have a range of choirs from Year R to Year 6. Our children love singing and we perform regularly at school and within our local community. We are proud to take our choirs out into the community to local care homes, garden centres and at yearly events such as The Eastleigh Light Switch On.

Instrumental and singing lessons 2026-27
Every child has the opportunity to learn a musical instrument and every class receives a dedicated music lesson as part of their weekly curriculum. In KS1 the children explore a range of tuned and untuned percussion. As they progress through KS2 they have class instrumental lessons on the recorder and the keyboards. Every year we hire a set of world instruments so that both KS1 and KS2 can broaden their experiences. So far we have hired Djembe drums, Steal Pan drums and Samba instruments.
We also offer individual instrumental lessons in Clarinet, Flute, Saxophone, Brass, Violin, Keyboard, Ukulele, Piano, Drums, Guitar and singing. These lessons (apart from drums) are provided by our peripatetic company, Discover the Music. Please click on the attached document below to find out more and to sign up for lessons.
Our Drum lessons are provided by Paul Wray. Please email wray_paul@btinternet.com to enquire further.
Rock2theBeat
We are fortunate enough to be able to provide our pupils with the opportunity to join Rock2theBeat. The Rock2theBeat team have been working with our pupils for a number of years now, and the whole school always look forward to their termly concerts where we get to see what the children have put together. The children are able to learn a range of instruments, and then get to put their skills into practise by forming a band! Please look at the attached documents for more information and guidance on how to sign up for lessons.
